Procrastination, Self Care and the Art of Taking the First Step

We all put things off, thinking they’ll take too long or be too hard. I learned it’s often easier once you just start — whether that’s a yoga class, a one-to-one session, or trying therapeutic art. Small steps in self care can make a big difference, helping you feel calmer, lighter, and more connected.

A Week in Cornwall: Slowing Down, Coming Back to Centre

Last week, I took time to slow down in Cornwall—coastal walks, the Eden Project, and quiet moments with family. A reminder of how essential rest is. I’ve shared a 40-minute yoga nidra practice too, in case you’re looking for a moment to reset.

Finding My Voice: A Journey Beyond Fear

Healing isn’t one-dimensional—there are many ways in. After years of navigating anxiety and fear of speaking through yoga and breathwork, I recently stepped into something new: a voice workshop at Kripalu. I didn’t go to become a singer. I went to explore expression, confidence, and the power of sound. It was deeply vulnerable, but also freeing. Letting go of expectation, I found ease—and unexpectedly, grief surfaced. I hadn’t realized how much emotion I was still holding. This experience reinforced what I believe in my work: healing happens in layers. Whether through movement, creativity, breath, or sound, we all have unique ways of finding our way back to ourselves.

Understanding Pain Through Self-Compassion: A Key to Healing

Compassion is a powerful yet often overlooked tool in how we manage pain. By cultivating self-compassion, we can reduce the impact of both physical and emotional discomfort. It’s not just about relieving pain, but transforming our relationship with it to promote deeper healing and well-being. Pain is complex, often causing frustration, self-blame, and isolation. Our natural response is to fight pain, leading to increased tension. However, self-compassion can help soothe the nervous system, providing both emotional and physical relief. Two practical ways to practice self-compassion are: Supportive Touch: Calming the body with a gentle hug or hand on the heart to reduce stress. Positive Self-Talk: Speaking kindly to yourself, just as you would to a friend in pain. By incorporating self-compassion into daily life, you can manage discomfort more effectively, allowing for greater healing. Compassion isn’t just emotional; it’s a powerful tool for achieving peace and wellness.

About me and yoga therapy

What is yoga therapy? Yoga Therapy uses the yoga traditions of movement, breathing, and deep relaxation to promote all round health, as well as alleviate medical conditions. It is a personalised approach centred around your goals and individual needs.    I use yoga as either primary or complementary therapy. For example, when I had a recent client who had whiplash, she went to a physiotherapist and an osteopath as her primary care. I used yoga therapy as a complementary therapy to help her manage the pain and recover from the accident, which left her in a heightened stress state.

Self love - how I have learned to be more kind to myself

I know that it’s not always possible to be happy and positive. This wouldn’t be normal because our moods fluctuate depending on our circumstances. But when we work on being more compassionate to ourselves, it can change our outlook. I’ve realised over the years, as I’ve deepened my knowledge of the practice of yoga, that ultimately we just need to be our authentic selves–and this starts with self-love.

‘You Gave Me Permission To Pause’

As a human race, we are constantly ‘doing’ – something exacerbated by the added pressure of immediacy when it comes to digital technology. But what happens when we rest? Are we fearful that when we pause we might not know ourselves? What happens when we simply give ourselves permission to pause, to breathe, to be in stillness, and to rest?

I don’t know what to call myself, but this is what I do

What I bring to the sessions when I have a private one to one session is ME.  The experiences I have had living with hypermobility, pain, anxiety, burnout and, raising a family of 4 boys. To be fully present, to listen and then to find a plan that works for each beautiful unique person that steps into my yoga studio

Taking it easy on social media

Over the summer I decided to take a social media break as I was feeling overwhelmed and finding that it was giving me a lot of anxiety. I felt I needed to keep up, I saw that my kids were becoming more distracted by their use of their gaming devices. I was helped by starting a course by Jane Clapp about social media
